A curious gaze, a spark of happiness — meet Mirumi
Mirumi is a little companion robot that lights up your heart with its innocent, adorable expression. It notices the world around it and turns to take a peek. When its shy gaze meets yours, it sparks a moment of unexpected joy—just like when a human baby on a crowded train suddenly looks your way.
And Mirumi isn’t just for you—it can spark joy for people around you, too. Think of Mirumi attached to your backpack turning to someone behind you on the train.
Now imagine the delightful surprise for them!

Attach Mirumi to your bag (or anywhere you’d like) and enjoy its reactions to sounds, touches, and its own curious movements.
Glances around and catches your eyes
Mirumi glances around, and its upward gaze might meet yours unexpectedly before shyly turning away. We designed Mirumi to gently touch your heart through such tiny, tender gestures.
⚫︎ Reacts to head patting
A touch sensor in Mirumi’s head detects patting, prompting adorable reactions randomly chosen by our special algorithm.

⚫︎ Turns toward sounds
When it hears a sound or voice, Mirumi turns its head, showing interest and curiosity.

⚫︎ Moves on its own
Mirumi makes spontaneous movements even when nothing is happening, adding charm and lifelike behavior.

⚫︎ Clings tightly
Mirumi is designed to wrap its arms around straps and poles (including skinny ones) securely latching onto bags and many other objects.

⚫︎ Sensors, chip, and motors in action
Mirumi “feels” through a touch sensor in its head and “hears” through two sound sensors in its body. These signals pass through an onboard IC chip, allowing Mirumi to generate countless natural-feeling reactions, which are brought to life by servo motors.

⚫︎ Algorithm
Mirumi’s magic comes from a special algorithm that randomizes its responses, giving them a natural, lifelike feel. This was only possible because of Yukai Engineering’s deep knowledge and experience in developing robots that people form emotional connections with.

⚫︎ Battery & Alerts
The battery is rechargeable using a Type-C cable.
Mirumi shakes its head tiredly when battery is low.
When charging is complete and the plug is removed, it lifts its head energetically, as if saying, “All set and ready!”

You’ll never get tired of interacting with Mirumi—its countless gestures always feel new. A simple touch can prompt it to turn or tilt its head, or nod in multiple ways, expressing subtle emotions like excitement, shyness, and hesitation. These varies gestures keep Mirumi’s behavior fresh, charming, and full of unexpected delight.

Crafted from Japanese materials in original colors, Mirumi has a soft, plush feel you’ll want to touch. Its bag-friendly size and charming silhouette make it stand out and attract glances naturally.

Slightly more compact than the prototype, Mirumi now fits perfectly in both hands.

The material used for Mirumi’s arms balance two opposing needs: ease of attachment and a secure hold. They are flexible enough to enable effortless opening and closing, yet firm enough to grip even thin straps securely.

Robots often bring convenience to our lives—but that’s not our purpose in making them. At Yukai Engineering, we create robots that bring people closer by inspiring emotional connection.

Imagine noticing a baby’s gazing up and instinctively waving back, or exchanging a smile with a stranger after your eyes meet by chance.
These small, unplanned moments can stir up joy in our hearts, connecting us in unexpected ways. Mirumi is designed to evoke those feelings through its tiny, endearing gestures that invite a smile—both from you and from those around you.

The name “Mirumi” is a blend of two Japanese words—“miru” (to look) and “nuigurumi” (stuffed animal).

Shipping is expected to take place between April and June, depending on the region.

Yukai Engineering is a Tokyo-based startup known for creating robots that bring joy to everyday life.
Yukai’s innovations have earned numerous accolades, including GIZOMODO The Best Robots of CES 2025 for Mirumi, TIME Magazine’s Best Innovations of 2025 for Nekojita FuFu (a drink-cooling robot), and CES 2023 Innovation Awards for BOCCO emo Platform (used by several Japanese utility companies to provide smart-living services) and fufuly (a robotic cushion for guided breathing that also received a 2024 Good Design Award).
Many of the company’s products have successfully launched on Kickstarter, including Nékojita FuFu, which raised more than $120,000 from nearly 1,800 backers worldwide during the April-June 2025 campaign. Qoobo (a therapeutic pillow for companionship) achieved a similar success, raising nearly $110,000 across 23 countries on Kickstarter in 2017.
